The former "Star Trek: Voyager" [Brannon Braga /min anmärkning] showrunner is reportedly taking on a similar job for the proposed Fox genre series "Terra Nova," enough that the network is rumored to have given the project from Steven Spielberg and former Fox president Peter Chernin a 13-episode order, according to Deadline Hollywood.

The series, centers on a family from the 22nd century that travels back to prehistoric Earth in the time of dinosaurs. Braga makes the move from "24," recently cancelled by Fox, and chooses to take on "Terra Nova" instead of what some expected was an insertion into a similar role with ABC's fledgling "FlashForward."

Terra Nova was written by Craig Silverstein and Kelly Marcel, based on Marcel’s story idea. Fox Entertainment would produce the show, with Spielberg and Peter Chernin currently mulling deals to come on as exec producers.

If "Terra Nova" gets the greenlight, Silverstein and Marcel would serve as exec producers along with Kaplan. Spielberg and Chernin would also exec produce, natch, but sources cautioned that there are no formal deals yet in place for either honcho. If Spielberg comes aboard, DreamWorks TV stewards Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank would also sign on as exec producers, as would Chernin Entertainment TV topper Katherine Pope.

Silverstein will be co-creator and exec producer of "Terra Nova," but he's in first position on a Warner Bros. TV pilot that has been greenlit by the CW, a new take on "La Femme Nikita" (Daily Variety, Jan. 28). Marcel is also fielding a script for Showtime, "Westbridge," through Thomas Schlamme's Shoe Money Prods. banner.

Spielberg and Peter Chernin are in negotiations to board the drama project "Terra Nova," which is described as following a family from 100 years in the future who travel back in time 150 million years to the strange and inhospitable environs of prehistoric Earth.

Kyle Chandler may be closing in on his first post-Friday Night Lights gig.

The actor has been made what one source describes as a “very lucrative offer” to headline Terra Nova, Fox’s big budget pilot from producer Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin.

Braga has plenty of beloved experience in the sci-fi genre through his deep ties to the Star Trek franchise. He’s worked in some capacity on all four post-original TV series (The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise), plus he scripted the seventh and eighth entries in the feature franchise (Generations and First Contact). Recently, he’s worked on the last two seasons of the now-cancelled 24 and co-created the soon-to-be-cancelled FlashForward.

No sweat off his brow though, as Terra has one of the highest profiles among the broadcast series in development, and his new job is sure to net Braga a substantial paycheck.
