"The reality is for whatever reason, the show didn't work, not because [the billboards] didn't show Donal Logue or Michael Raymond James or explain it was set in Ocean Beach -- all things explained explicity in promos that are the overwhelming way the show was exposed to the American public," Landgraf said. "People thought the show was compatible with the FX brand but not similar to other FX shows. To the extent it was dissimilar, they found it to be a little less edgy, sexy and suspenseful, and I think the things that were wonderful about the show tended to be a little more subtle."
